Designer / Curator-at-large [Chair since 2025]

1986 to 2011 CEO and Artistic Director of MAK Vienna/Los Angeles. Founder of the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles (with three houses by Rudolf M. Schindler), 1994 with the Schindler Artists and Architects in Residence program. In 2010, Noever initiated the MAK UFI – Urban Future Initiative ( “Urban Future. Manifestos,” edited by Peter Noever, Kimberli Meyer, Hatje Cantz Verlag, 2010), Los Angeles. 2000 Development of the CAT – Contemporary Art Tower project in Vienna (with artistic interventions by Jenny Holzer and James Turrell). “A radically new programmatic strategy that meets the complex requirements of today’s artistic productions.” In 2006, he founded the Josef Hoffmann Museum, Brtnice, Czech Republic, a branch of the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the MAK. Immediately after his resignation after 25 years as director of the MAK, Eric Owen Moss (director of SCI-Arc) organized the exhibition “The (Secret) Return of … (NO EVER)” at the ACE Museum/Gallery, Los Angeles, together with Douglas Chrismas, Frank O. Gehry, Greg Lynn, Jeffrey Kipnis, Thom Mayne, and Wolf Prix.

In 2000, Noever joined the Franz West Archive at the personal invitation of Franz West, and has been a member of its board since 2012. From 2001 to 2012, he was a member of the board of the Günther Domenig Private Foundation, and its chairman in 2005/2006. In 2016, Peter Noever was nominated as a candidate for the position of Dean of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture in California. Noever has curated over 350 exhibitions, including in Vienna, Los Angeles, Venice, New York, Moscow, Tokyo, Berlin, Prague, Brtnice, Budapest, Shenzhen, St. Petersburg, and Havana. In 2014, he received the Golden Lion at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale for the exhibition “Crow's Eye View: The Korean Peninsula.” Noever was a member of the curatorial team for the South Korean Pavilion. 
He has given guest lectures at leading art and architecture institutions worldwide. 
Peter Noever initiated the transformation of the Austrian museum landscape into modern scenarios through his interpretation of the MAK. At the same time, he opened the MAK in Vienna and Los Angeles to architecture and experimental design. Noever actively participates in art debates and deals intensively with issues of urban planning. Noever's self-assessment: “Chronically obsessive.”

2017 Light sculpture “Fountain” by Brigitte Kowanz, a new landmark for St. Pölten. Noever has placed over 20 sculptures in public spaces in Vienna, Los Angeles, and Venice. Among others: Zaha Hadid, “Trompe l'Oeil” in Prince Eugene's Winter Palace (City Palace) in the Belvedere, Vienna.
